People polarize
We accuse each other of telling lies
We fight for the right until somebody dies
Without regard for a baby's cries
We struggle and strive to win the prize
Of persuading others to pretend we're wise
Hiding our greed and fear behind a disguise
And we all wind up disenfranchised
So that all of life is a bad surprise
When people polarize
It's hell
But sometimes...
People harmonize
Working together in the grand enterprise
Of helping everyone to rise
From the suffering of endless tears and sighs
To lift our smiles and brighten our eyes
When we realize that we all comprise
Part of the same big communal hive
That will die if we let ourselves sterilize
The beautiful world we could prioritize
When people harmonize
It's heaven
